Position Title: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Senior Accountant

Location:  Denver, CO

Department: Finance & Accounting

 

Job Summary
To ensure that Cureton continues to deliver on its customer service commitments, the Cureton Accounting Team is looking to add a Staff Accountant who will be instrumental in assisting Cureton’s Senior Staff Accountant and Controller with managing the general ledger process, including month end close, various journal entries, account reconciliations, internal and external financial reporting and audit compliance which will help support our overall growth plans and development of our assets in the DJ Basin.

Essential job functions and responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries
  • Assist in the month end close process
  • Perform account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and other supporting work papers
  • Assist with internal and external auditors to complete all audits in a timely manner
  • Through analytical review, ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies and controls
  • Provide ad hoc analysis of accounts for management and for financial reporting purposes, as requested.
  • Strive to understand the full range of the applicable operational accounting systems (e.g. Sage Intacct) functionality, the specific assets for which the accountant is responsible, and the midstream business as a whole
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key operations and construction team members to increase and enhance the level of support provided to internal customers
  • Support special projects as needed and requested by management
  • Show proficiency at communicating effectively with managers and organize and present information effectively
  • Develop creative solutions to complex problems
  • Occasional travel to a field location in Keenesburg, CO (Approx. 1-2x per year)
  • Demonstrates professional presence with a confident and approachable personality
  • Proactively responds to a wide variety of requests with expeditious action and with a positive, consultative approach
  • Detail oriented
  • Manage the day-to-day workflow as well as possess confidence and strong communication skills to interface with all levels of staff
  • Some after-hours availability via email or mobile phone may be required

Computer Skills

Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint are a must.  

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field
  • 0-3 years of relevant general ledger accounting experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Highly motivated and team-oriented individual
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to operate independently, recognize issues, and provide solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and strong analytical skills
  • Moderate Excel and Word skills required and have the aptitude to effectively learn company-specific accounting systems
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Flexible and open to work as needed and during peak periods.

Preferred Experience

  • Relevant industry and midstream oil and gas experience a plus
  • Prior experience with Sage Intacct or Bill.com
  • Candidates who take ownership of their work product and are willing to go the extra mile when necessary
  • CPA designation seeking candidates.

Physical Requirements: 

Physical activities required of this position are the abilities necessary to operate office equipment used in the position, talking, seeing, and hearing in a corporate office environment.  Walking, sitting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and minimal unassisted lifting (up to 20 pounds) associated with the job duties is required.
